Abstract :
This study was carried out to investigate germination of 31 pumpkin seed samples collected from districts of Kayseri province under standart germination conditions, and germination rate and time of seeds treated with methyl jasmonat (MeJA). Two different concentrations of MeJA (0.5 and 1.0 μM), three temperatures (12, 15 and 25°C) X 3 times for osmotic contioning (6, 12 and 18 hour) were used to estimate effects of MeJA. MeJA applications produced promising results compared to control applications. The highest germination rates (%73) were obtained from application of 6 h 1 μM MeJA at 12°C while the lowest application rate (62%) were obatined from the control. At 15°C, the highest germination rate (91%) were obtained from 12 h 1.0 μM MeJA while the lowest germination rate (82%) were obtained from the control. Thirty-one seed samples were compared for germination rate and time under standart conditions and germination rates ranging from %12 to 90 were detected with an average of 44%. In conclusion, seed samples colected from the Kayseri region had low levels of germination rates, MeJA and humidification applications may produce promissing results in pumpkin seeds as primary propagation tool in the region that has low soil and air temperatures during seeding.
