COMPARATIVE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF FIELD DATA FROM SIMAV FAULT AND SURROUNDING AREA WITH ALOS-PALSAR AND LANDSAT IMAGES
Abstract :
With the aim of completing regional structural analysis of Simav Fault and surroundings, LANDSAT 7 ETM+ and ALOS-PALSAR satellite images were investigated. The results obtained were interpreted together with field studies. Analysis of LANDSAT satellite images determined 56 lineations. In a similar study of ALOS-PALSAR satellite images, the best filtering results were obtained with the Lee-Sigma filter. Analysis of ALOS-PALSAR satellite images determined 71 lineations. Additionally, the lineations were more clearly defined using a digital elevation model (DEM) prepared in this study. The three dimensional image created using this model more clearly showed the fault lineations. Using images obtained by controlled classification of LANDSAT 7 ETM+ satellite images, an attempt was made to draw the boundaries of geological units. Drainage systems on topographic maps, especially the left lateral offset of deep and old river beds on the Simav Fault, are evidence that the transformation of the Simav Fault from a strike-slip fault to its current normal fault character occurred in very recent times (Quaternary).
