Abstract :
In this study; a potentiometric PVC membrane ion-selective electrode (ISE) for the determination of perchlorate was developed. Methyltrioctylammonium chloride, a lipophilic quaternary ammonium salt, were used as ionophore substance in electrode membrane structures. The electrode membrane was composed of at the ratio of 3% izoniazid-tetraphenylborate ion pair, 67% nitrophenyloctylether and 30% PVC. For this electrode, linear range, slope, detection limit, pH working range and response time were determined as 1.0×10^-6-1.0×10^-1 M, -49.0 mV/decade, 9.0×10^-7 M, 5.0-11.0 and ≈ 20 s, respectively. The proposed electrode performed highly reproducible responses. It was observed that the selectivity of the electrode was quite well when compared to the some perchlorate selective electrodes available in literature. Analytical application of the electrode was realized by determining the perchlorate contents of the tap waters to which added certain amounts of perchlorate anions. The obtained results by the electrode were in good agrement with those of the added perchlorate amounts.
