Abstract :
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the retrospective analysis of the butterfly cartilage myringoplasty peformed patients at Elazığ Education and Research Hospital. Materials and Methods: Seventeen patients (10 male, 7 female) of the age from 16 to 47 years were enrolled in this study. All patients were operated under general anesthesia and their preoperative and postoperative puretone audiograms were analysed retrospectively. Results: 16 of perforations treated by butterfly cartilage myringoplasty were successfully closed at the end of the follow-up period. We detected graft medialization in one patient which needed revision surgery and the perforation was closed after revision. The mean preoperative pure-tone audiogram for all 17 patients was detected as 26.6 dB which decreased to 18.2 dB. postoperatively. Conclusion: Butterfly cartilage myringoplasty is a timesaving, safe, easy, and effective technique for the closure of small-to-medium tympanic membrane perforations.
