Abstract :
It is stated that accusative and dative case suffixes are interchangeable in southwest Anatolian dialects. This feature is generally attributed to various reasons such as case suffix alternation, deep structure-surface structure, verb-reaction relation/valence and residual of Old Turkish. First of all, it is seen that both case suffixes show a change in dialects and local dialects. Therefore, it is possible to encounter some examples where these two case suffixes are used for the same function. On the other hand, the valence of the finite verb is known by the local dialect speaker and any meaning distinctive factor in standard language may not be used for a specific function in dialect areas. This study will emphasize alternation with accusative and dative case suffixes and put forward opinions about the reasons of such confusions that come up in southwest Anatolian dialects.
