Examining Problem Solving Skills and Self Respects of the Preschool Teacher Candidates in Terms of Several Factors

In the study, whether the problem solving skills and self respects of the preschool teacher candidates demonstrates distinctions in terms of several factors was intended to study. 313 teacher candidates attending to Afyon Kocatepe University, Education Faculty department of primary education preshool teaching in during 2012-2013 education semesters have been included in the research study group. As a means of data collecting, Demographic Information Form, Problem Solving Skill Scale developed by Yaman (2003) and Self Respect Scale developed by Arıcak (1999) have been applied. After Kolmogorov-Smirnoff (K-S) Test, the findings of the study were analyzed via t Test with 2 groups when analyzing between group differences and via Anova Test with groups more than two. And in order to analyze correlation between problem solving and self respect Pearson correlation analysis was used. As a result of the study, a meaningful distinction between gender variable and self respects of teacher candidates have been found in favour of girls, whereas no meaningful distinction between problem solving skills and gender variables have been found. It has been determined that the level of class, type of the high school they have graduated and education status of parents don’t create a meaningful distinction over problem solving skills and self respects of the preschool teacher candidates. And also a positive linear relationship has been found problem solving skills and self respect of preschool teacher candidates.
