Title Of Article :
Using Legume Forage Crops for Silage
Abstract :
Legumes are important forage crops in ruminant production and sustainable agroecosystems, because they have capable of producing high yield and high forage quality. They fix large amounts of atmospheric nitrogen into soil; they make a significant contribution to the whole farm economy. Perennial legumes provide continuous groundcover for several years; reduce water runoff from hillsides and loss of soil and mineral nutrients. Alfalfa and other forage legumes have historically been used as hay and pasture, interest among farmers and researchers in legume forage crops for silage increased during the past 20 yr. Early practices to ensile legumes frequently resulted in spoiled forage, but factors responsible for this are now largely understood. The objective of this review was to summarize the use of forage legumes for silage, problems and solutions by using data both from previously and recently literature.
