Abstract :
Trout culture has showed a rapid increase in Almus Dam Lake which is similar to the other dam lakes of Turkey. The most important components in net the cage culture systems are the water quality parameters and environmental carrying capacity. In this study, water quality of Almus Dam Lake has been observed for one year period, and some evaluations have been done on trout culture, carrying capacity and trophic level of the lake by considering the obtained results. Studied water quality parameters changed between 5.6 and 22.8 oC in temperature, 8.2 and 11.2 mg/l in dissolved oxygen, 8.3 and 8.6 in pH, 200 cm and 980 in secchi depth, 0.005 and 0.016 mg/l in nitrite, 0.04 and 0.38 mg/l in nitrate, 0.11 and 0.52 mg/l in ammonia, 0.009 and 0.09 mg/l orthophosphate. Complying with determined rules, Almus Dam Lake was found suitable for trout culture and it was estimated that 5530 ton trout culture can be reared in the lake according to carrying capacity depending on phosphorus.
