Abstract :
In this study, the profit efficiencies of agricultural enterprises producing pistachios in Gaziantep was determined. Required data were obtained through interviews with a total of 136 agricultural enterprises located in 14 villages, of which 72 were mountain, and 64 were lowland enterprises, by using a simple random sampling method. The profit efficiencies of the enterprises were determined using data envelopment analysis (DEA). Because they were faced to different environmental effects Tobit model was used to ensure a comparison of the efficiencies of mountain and lowland enterprises with each other, and corrections were made in the scores of profit-efficiencies after finding the effects and direction of environmental conditions. As a result of the DEA the profit-efficiencies coefficient per enterprise across general, lowland and mountain enterprises were determined as 0.79, 0.79 and 0.78 respectively. It was determined that currently obtained gross profit could be obtained by decreasing the input delivered through savings in labor expenditures of 26% , fertilizer costs of 22% , drug costs of 25%, fuel costs of 23%, and in the other variables in charge of 33%. Pistachio growers´ being informed about cultivation and input usage will be effective in increasing the profit efficiencies of enterprises.
