The leaf and fruit features of olive varieties (Olea europaea L.) cultivated around soma thermal plant

The present study was conducted under ecological conditions of Manisa during the growth seasons of 2010 and 2011 years to determine the leaf and fruit characteristics of Domat, Gemlik and Edremit olive cultivars grown at 1 and 10 km distances from The Soma Thermal Plant. In measurement made in the leaf and the fruit leaf weight of Domat cultivar significantly decreased (P 0.05) in both years with increasing distances. Fruit flesh weight, fruit weight, fruit length and fruit width of Edremit cultivar in 2010 and the only fruit length of Domat and Edremit cultivars in 2011 significantly decreased with increasing distances. Conversely, number of fruit in each 100 g of Edremit cultivar in 2010 and of Domat cultivar in 2011 significantly increased (P 0.05). Stone weight, length and width of Edremit cultivar in 2010 and only the stone width of Domat cultivar significantly decreased with increasing distances. Water and oil contents of Domat cultivar significantly increased, but oil content of Gemlik cultivar significantly decreased with increasing distances from the plant.
