A Comparative Study of Dairy Farms Associated and None-Associated with Agricultural Development Cooperatives Using Certain Criterias: A Case Study of Van Province of Gevaş District

In this study the data of 37 farms associated and 44 non-associated with İkizler Agricultural Development Cooperative were analyzed comparatively in Gevaş District of Van Province within the framework of certain criterias related to socio-demographic and farm business characteristics. The data belongs to 2009 year and were collected from 81 farm managers through a questionnaire conducted face to face. Chi- Square test was used in comparison of statistical significances of some variables between cooperative associated and non- associated farms. Also, some independent variables were regressed on average daily milk yield per cow in a linear regression equation. The results showed that education level, number of cows, daily milk yield per cow, lactation period and total milk feed quantity per year were higher for farms associated to Cooperative and there existed statistically significance in terms of the above-mentioned variables between farms associated and non-associated to Cooperative. Also, there existed statistically significant relationship between farms associated and non-associated to Cooperative with respect to artificial insemination application, receiving training on dairy production and keeping records. Regression results indicated that all other variables being constant, associated to Cooperative, communication with agricultural departments, experience and having culture-breed cows could increase the daily milk yield per cow. On the other hand, having native-breed cow could decrease the daily milk yield per cow.
