Investigate The Effect Heterobeltiosis and Heterosis on Yield Components of Poppy Cultivars and Their Reciprocal Crosses in The National List

The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of heterosis and heterobeltiosis on yield and yield components of some poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) cultivars in National Cultivar List of Turkey and their reciprocal crosses. Experiments were conducted over the experimental fields of Opium Alkaloids Factory during the years 2009 and 2010 in partially balanced lattice design with three replications. As the plant material, 7 registered cultivars and their reciprocal crosses were used. General and specific combining abilities of the cultivars were determined, genetic variations among the cultivars were analyzed and hybrids with high morphine content and high capsule-seed yields were tried to be developed. Heterosis and heterobeltiosis values were respectively observed as between (-70.58) - 32.46 % and (-71.40) - 16.14 % for capsule yield; between (-52.27) - 28.66 % and (-58.5) - 22.03 % for seed yield; between (-34.59) - 16.52 % and (-47.47) - 13.04 % for morphine content and finally between (-68.51) - 45.16 % and (-71.97) - 42.11 % for morphine yield.
