Determination of the Depression Levels of Disabled Chıldren’s Mothers
Abstract :
This is a descriptive research whic has been done between the dates of 1st of August 2008 – 1st of November 2008. The research universe consists of mothers of 600 disabled children attending to Special Education and Rehebilitaion Centre in Aksaray province. The calculation sample has reached to 215 mothers by using “sample formula with a known universe” The research data have been gathered by using the demegraphic question form prepared by the researcher and the Beck Depression Scale to determine the depression levels of mothers. Data have been evaluated by loading the information acquired to the SPSS 16.0 software and by calculating the percentage, avarage value and by using the ci-square test. 42.8% of the mothers are at the age of 30-39, 92,1% of them don’t have any other disabled child, 54,4% of the disabled children are boy, 80.5% of them have no other health problem, 65.7% of them have mentioned that there is no other person to help with caring of the disabled child. The avarage depression points of mothers has been found as 21.60±12.99. At the end of the research, it has been found that the depressive symptom levels of mothers with a dsiabled child is high. The psychological conditions of the mothers should be observed closely, emotional sharing must be provided.
