Abstract :
The aim of this study was to examine the frequency and causes of hospital readmission for heart failure patients. The study was carried out in the cardiology departments of two university hospitals and the research sample consisted of 137 patients. Patient Demographic Form, Comorbidity Index, and Katz Index of Daily Living Activities were used for the data collection. The data were analyzed by using the chi-square test and oneway ANOVA test. It was found that, of the participants in the study, 21.9% were readmitted twice, 27.7% three times, and 50.4% four or more times. It was determined that the mean age of patients readmitted four or more times, and their duration of diagnosis and NYHA functional classes were significantly higher, whereas their left ventricular ejection fraction percentages and mean scores of daily living activities were lower. Therefore, it is recommended that nurses follow the patients in this group more closely.
