Abstract :
This descriptive study was carried out in order to determine the stress levels which the freshmen in the Nursing and Wifery Higher School experienced after their first clinic practices and the factors which affected them. The research was conducted on a voluntary basis on 83 freshmen studying in the Nursing and Midwifery department of a Vocational Higher School of Health in the province of Çanakkale in the 2009-2010 educational year. The data were obtained through students’ identification forms prepared by the researchers and Clinical Stress Survey ( CSS), which was conducted to determine the students’ stress levels after the clinic practice. The analysis was done in SPSS 15.00 statistical program of the computer with percentage, average and t tests. In the research, average point of the students’ KSA was calculated as 54.2+ 8.9 and it was found that the students experienced stress over the average. While a significant difference was found between the students’ departments and total average points( t=2.65, P=0.010) and between their receptivity to the clinic and KSA’s low dimension of average point, it was seen that there was not a significant difference between introduction of the clinic before the clinic experience and students’ receptivity to the clinic and average point of KSA. It was found out that the stress levels of stdents of Nursing and Midwifery at the end of first day in clinical practice were above average. To reduce the factors generating stress on students is recommended.
