Identification of Patient Communication Difficulties for Nurses Who Work in Medical Intensive Care Unit
Abstract :
Objective: This study; was carried out as descriptive purpose in identification of patient communication difficulties for nurses who work in Medical Critical Care Units. Method: The sampling methods were applied over 164 nurses who work in Medical Intensive Care Units. Survey data were collected through a questionary form by the investigator after reviewing related literature. Frequency and percentage values and Chi-Square Test were used to evaluate the data. Results: The study determined that only 9.1% nurses aren’t experiencing communication difficulties. The nurses whose are experiencing communication difficulties have stated that the reasons of communication difficulties were originated from 84.8% ‘s of themselves, 92.1% of the status of the patient, 56.7% of the physical properties of intensive care environment, and 58.6% ‘s derived from patients’ relatives. Conclusion: Nurses who participating in the study are having difficulties in communicating with the patient highly. Therefore, communication is difficult in patient in intensive care units would be advisable to inservice training for communication skills.
