Investigating The Preoperative And Postoperative Experiences of Patients Undergoing Colorectal Cancer Surgery
Abstract :
Objective:The objective of this study was to evaluate the patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery, pre-operative and post-operative period examine their experiences. Method: Sample of the research was consisted of 8 who were underwent colorectal cancer surgery on a university hospital and who were agree to enter the study. Written permission was taken from the patients by explaining the purpose of the study and that the interviews will be tape recorded Data were collected between the dates of 15 May and 15 June 2010 by in-depth interviews method. The data for this research was collected by socio-demografic charactaristic Questionnaire and semi-structured interview forms. Each interview was tape recorded and was supported by taking notes. The audio tapes were listened and re-listened by the researchers and transcribed. The researchers have focused on reflection of the meaning of the patients’ expressions. The researchers tried to catch the meaning of essence of participants’ life experiences. Analysis of the sociodemografic data, the number and percentage distrubition were calculated. Results:It was determined that the patients assigned to research mean age 52.12±17.97 (min: 36 max: 85) , 5 of them (%62.5) were male and 4 (%50) were married. At the end of this study it was determined that the patients underwent colorectal surgery preoperative and postoperative period disbelief, fear, dependence, shame and remorse”. All of the patients experienced a tiring period of during the illness, diagnosis and treatment. Conclusion: The findings were found similar to those patients living in different socio-cultural societies. It is thought that it will be increase the quality of care offered to patients, knowledge of the problems experienced by patients
