Abstract :
Pregnancy and childbirth is a normal physiological process, but currently developing of technology pressure causes unnecessary interventions and makes women passive. So this process is usually remembered badly. Providing to women in these processes of physical, psycho-social support and education of women playing an active role at birth, the process will be remind better. Provided training and support, the whole process, taking an evidence-based practice guidelines, reducing unnecessary interventions and protection/development of maternal and child health is purposed. This purpose will reduce mortality- morbidity and caesarean rates successfully. To achieve these goals, initiated in the United States and planned to implement in Turkey, mother-friendly hospital model is discussed. With this model, instead of high-cost and ineffective screening and diagnostic procedures, evidence-based practices and the process based on the the birth process normalcy, empowerment, autonomy, do no harm, responsibility principles will take place. If this process is used effectively by health professionals, birth will be normally, reliable and women will have had his own way. As well as birth, antenatal and postnatal care services are also will be given in appropriate care protocols. In this review, “the mother-friendly hospital s” policy-criteria and health professionals responsibilities will be discussed.
