Abstract :
Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate social support and general health status in the context of socioeconomic inequalities in health experienced individuals. Method: The study was conducted in different socio-economic characteristics in two Primary Health Care Centers in Konya city center. Cluster sampling method was used. The study sample which included 100 individuals from each region was consisted of a total of 200 individuals. The study participants were between the ages of 18-65. An information form that was developed by the researcher and “Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support” and “The 12-item General Health Questionnaire” were used to collect data. Number and percentage, mean and standart deviation, chi-square, Kruskal Wallis analyses and Mann-Whitney U test were used, p 0.05 was set as statistically significant.Results: The predictors of total General Health Questionnaire score were age, gender, educational status, number of living rooms, income status, perceived income status, social class position, living district (p 0.05 for each). The predictors of total Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support score were education level, place of birth, place where the majority of life was spent, size of household, number of living rooms, income status, perceived economic status, health insurance status, social class position. Conclusion: Socioeconomic status has effect on mental health and social support status. Disadvantaged region has more negative characteristics about mental health and social support status.
