The job satisfaction levels of nurses working in a university hospital
Abstract :
Objective: This study was carried out to determine the satisfaction levels of nurses working in anuniversity hospital and the factors affected them. Method: The study was conducted with 291 nurses from 450 nurses working in this hospital after getting a permission from the top management of a university hospital. The data was collected between April 05 to 20, 2012 by a questionnaire composed of 15 questions regarding the demographic features and their satisfaction regarding hospital and nursing, and Minnesota Satisfaction Scale and Job Description Scale. Data were evaluated by frequency, percent, avarage, t-test, ANOVA, Tukey, Kruskall Wallis ve Mann Withney U test. Results: It was determined that nurses received scores with 2.87±0.58 in mean of total, 3.14±0.64 for intrinsic satisfaction subscale and 2.60±0.64 for extrinsic satisfaction subscale from Minnesota Satisfaction Scale. It was defined that they received scores with 1.14±0.36 in mean of total, 1.23±0.56 for the present work subscale, 0.59±0.50 for current salary subscale, 0.22 ± 0.19 for promotion opportunities subscale and 1.18 ± 0.66 for administration subscale, 2.10±0.72 for persons working together subscale and 1.51±0.73 for size of the business subscale from Job Description Scale. The nurses graduated from the health high schools, safisfied with nursing and their hospital and the quality of service that they offered had more job satisfaction (p 0.05). Conclusion: It was found low of job satisfaction levels of nurses as general.
