The Role of Midwifes and Nurses Working in Primary Health Care Services in Preventing Maternity Blues
Abstract :
Maternity blues is a problem of maternal and infant health. Therefore eliminating of psychological needs and resolving of distress by professional support is very important in postpartum period. The best monitoring of mothers both prenatal and postnatal care is made by primary healthcare staffs. Therefore it’s known that risk factors could be detected by regular follow up during pregnancy period and the symptoms are made peak in fifth day of postpartum period, primary healthcare staffs should have adequate knowledge about this issue. Healthcare staffs should be informed to notice the symptoms of maternity blues and person who give social support to mother should be informed to help for baby care and to provide her by positive thinking in early period of postpartum. Risk for postpartum depression will be increase unless a supportive and reliable environment couldn’t be provided to mother. In this review, it is aimed to present the existing to maternity blues responsibilities and preventative powers of midwives and nurses working in primary health care services.
