Determining the Satisfaction Levels of the Mothers According to Their Mode of Birth
Abstract :
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the satisfactionfrom birth levels of the mothers according to their mode of birth. Method: This descriptive study was conducted between 1 October 2014-1 February 2015 in a maternity hospital located in Erzurum. The sample group of the study consisted of the 127 mothers who were contacted, agreed to participate in the study and had no complication in their infants and themselves. The data were collected within the postpartum first 48 hours by using the questionnaire prepared by the researchers through face-to-face interview technique. Results: 53.1% of the mothers giving vaginal birth were in the age group of 15-29 years, %50 had an educational level of primary school or below and 29.7% had their second pregnancy. The %68.3 of the mothers having cesarean delivery were in the age group of 15-29, had an education level of elementary level or below and %36.5 had their second pregnancy. While 87.5% of the mothers giving vaginal birth were satisfied with their mode of birth, 57.1% of the mothers having cesarean delivery were dissatisfied with their mode of birth. If there were another chance to give birth; 79.7% of those giving vaginal birth, 41.2% of those having cesarean delivery stated that they would like to give vaginal birth. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was found that those giving vaginal birth were more satisfied with their delivery method and a great part of those having cesarean delivery stated that they would like to give vaginal birth if they had another chance to give birth.
