Abstract :
Objective: This research was carried out to examine the sexual life of partners and the factors affecting it in pregnancy. Method: The pregnant women and their husbands who applied to Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department Antenatal Care Polyclinic between the dates 15.06.11 and 15.09.11 constitute the sample survey of this cross-sectional research. 105 couples were volunteer to participate in the research study. Research data is gathered with questionnaire forms improved by the researcher drawn up separately for the females and the males and with a libido scoring system. In the analysis of data, descriptive statistics, variance analysis and t-test were used. Result: The libido score averages of the women are 4.43±1.41 and the libido score averages of the men are 6.351.68 during the preconception period; the libido score averages of the women are 2.861.70, the libido score averages of men are 4.882.39 during the pregnancy period. A significant difference between the libido score averages of the couples’ during the preconception and the libido score averages of the them during the pregnancy have been found out. 42.9% of the female participants stated that sexual intercourse was not safe during the pregnancy and 44.8% of the male participants stated that sexual intercourse was not safe during the pregnancy. In addition, 51.4% of women, 46.7% men stated that fear sexual intercourse during the pregnancy. Conclusion: Sexuality may be a major problem for most couples during pregnancy. the libido score averages of the couples’ during the preconception are higher than the libido score averages during the pregnancy, due to sexuality wasn’t safe during the pregnancy and fear sexuality, decreased frequency of sexual intercourse and pregnancy can be said to affect sexual function status of couples.
