Abstract :
Aims: This study aims to identify the effects of vasomotor complaints experienced by women in the menopausal period. Methods: This study, which is descriptive, cross-sectional was conducted with 130 women who applied to Çukurova University Menopause Polyclinic between 20th January, 2013 and 20th July, 2014. The data were collected through Identification and Assessment Form, Visual Analog Scale, and a chart identifying the effects of vasomotor complaints on daily life. Results: The participants’ hot flashes, night sweats and sweats mean scores were found 7.78 ± 2.27, 6.81 ± 3.17 and 7.16 ± 2.78 respectively. Vasomotor complaints experienced by women were found to affect daily life activities such as emotional state with a proportion of 6.2 mostly, then sleep and concentration with a proportion of 5.8, and physical and mental fatigue levels; the least affected activity was found excretory habit with a proportion of 4.1. The relationship between hot flashes and daily life activities demonstrated significant relationship (p=0) up to values between 10.0% and 38.3% for all the activities except for intestinal and urinary excretory activity. (r=0.100; p=0.260). Conclusion: Results of the present study have revealed that vasomotor complaints experienced by women in the menopausal period affect all daily life activities negatively.
