STUDY OF TEACHERS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS WOMENMANAGERS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The purpose of this study is to determine teachers’ attitudes towards women principals in primaryschools. 227 teachers who work in 12 state primary schools in Mamak, Ankara in the academic year2010-2011 consisted of this research sample. As a means of data collection “Attitude Scale to WomenPrincipals” was used. According to the results of the study, while the attitudes towards women principalsvary according to gender, they have no significant means in terms of age and seniority. Analysis of thedata clearly stated that women teachers’ attitudes towards women principals is much more positive thanmale teachers’ in the aspects of “task-role behavior”, “relational role behavior” and “work ethic”.Teachers’ attitudes towards women principals are more positive in the aspect of “task-role behavior”than the other aspects. For developing more positive attitudes towards women principals in primaryschools, implementing efficient policy, encouraging women to be principals, organizing some seminarsfor women in managerial staff to improve their management skills may be counted among therecommendations.
