REFLECTIONS of BATH CULTURE on the CLASSICAL OTTOMAN POETRY
Abstract :
The Classical Otoman Poetry is a kind of literature taking materials from all areas of social life. Poets grown within this tradition have vividly reflected certain cultural elements of poetry belonging to the society they belong to. Some of the reflected cultural elements are baths and bath entertainments. Baths are indispensable place for cleaning and entertainment in the Ottoman society and the cultural background from experiences of those who had there have been one of the crucial inspiration of Classical Ottoman poets.In this study, reflections of rich bath culture in the Ottoman social life on the classical Ottoman poetry have been investigated. This cultural background is described with examples taken from poems by various poets.
