Abstract :
Within the framework of the expatriation decree issued on 21 September 1572 for the Development and Housing of Cyprus, imme-diate population transfer movements were launched from the south and middle regions of Anatolia. Expatriation decree orders were written to Kadıs of Anatolia, Karaman, Rum and Dulkadir regions, where certain expatria-tion households suitable for the current popu-lation were formed. Yet, our information about the housing of Cyprus is limited to expatriation households transferred from the towns of Karaman and İçel Sanjak provinces. The expatriation households formed in Beyşehir, Seydişehir, Aksaray, Andugu, Develi-karahisar, Ürgüb, Koçhisar, Niğde, Bor, Ilgın, İshaklı and Akşehir (towns of Karaman Prov-ince) were recorded in a registry book. Ac-cording to the records concerning Niğde, a total of 246 households were determined to be transferred to Cyprus from Niğde city, its sub districts and villages. These families had a total of thirty-two children, twenty-two boys and ten girls. While thirty family heads, among the selected families, had a profession, others did not. Out of 246 families expatriat-ed from Niğde, 132 volunteered, 36 were chosen in accordance with the expatriation decree and 76 were charged criminals.
