Abstract
As in other Turkish tribes, the family starts with marriage in the Kyrgyz. Related to the view that family is the small state, the Kyrgyz make their children marry for permanence of lineage and strengthening relative ties. Coherence of Turkish culture becomes prominent also in Kyrgyz family. Life conditions, traditions and customs of the Kyrgyz determine their marriage forms. In this article, marriage types, particularly bride price, traditions and customs, various rituals, related archaic elements and kindred names based on marriage are included.
