The Importance of Expression Types in the Studies of Getting the Skill of Written Expression

The studies of getting the skill of written expression have gone on for a very long while with different activities. But especially students’ point of view on the word composition and their content development, of course, when they hear that word, have almost never changed. The subject given is more effective rather than the statement ‘write a composition’ on leading students. But the point that draws attention in these studies, whichever subject is given, is that the written texts remind us of a kind of essay, which begins with explanatory turn of phrase. In this study, students’ ability to use the expression types is analyzed, and it is tried to be pointed out with examples that the students can write in different expression types as well. In this paper, the experimental design model with one-group pretest-posttest design is used. The working group of the study is constituted by the first graders of Turkish Language Teaching Department of Faculty of Education of Erzincan University. With this article, in written expression studies, it is inferred that to decide with which type the subject would be indited is important for both the writing is more effective and its creation a diversity for students; besides, it is observed that students’ intend to write has been increased.
