IMPORTANCE OF THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES IN TERMS OF STUDIES ON ERZURUM LOCAL HISTORY (19. CENTURY)
Abstract :
Researches on City History have been gaining momentum day by day in Turkey. The momentum necessitates the use of new approaches, knowledge and documents. Naturally, researches on the history of the province of Erzurum are increasing every other day in consequence. Such an increase leads to new and recorded documents from various sources and their use becomes more and more common. From this respect, the institutions where Ottoman and Russian Archives have been classified on the history of the province of Erzurum are of great interest. In addition, the National Archives include important documents about the history of Erzurum, too. Therefore in this study, we will shed light on the history of Erzurum based on various archives in Great Britain. By following historical chronology in this work, we emphasize the importance of English archives and aim to contribute through a different momentum to the research on the city history in Turkey.
