Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to investigate the predictive power of goal orientation, class level, gender and interaction between goal orientation and gender for subcomponents’ of high school students’ life satisfaction. For this aim, 229 girls and 180 boys, a total of 409 high school students were administered Multidimensional Life satisfaction scale and Achievement Goal Orientations Scale. According to the results, learning goal orientation was the best predictor of all components of life satisfaction and the most strong relationship between learning orientation and life satisfaction was for school life satisfaction factor. In addition, the interaction between gender and performance avoidance goal was significant in predicting school life satisfaction. These findings demonstrate that goal orientation is not only useful in explaining adolescents’ academic behaviors, but also useful in explaining the every aspects of adolescent students’ life satisfaction and these relationships vary based on gender.
