Evaluation of Classroom Teachers’ “Art and Aesthetics” Competencies in terms of Music Education Competencies Based on the Lecturers’ Views
Abstract :
In terms of music competencies, the aim of this research is to study “Art and Aesthetics” competencies which are one of the classroom teacher special field competencies prepared by the Ministry of National Education. Lecturers teaching music in the Department of Primary Education form the study group of the research. The lecturers were asked to give their opinion about whether the performance indicators concerning the proficiency field “Art and Aesthetics” were appropriate or not in terms of music competencies. Most of the lecturers gave the opinion that performance indicators relating to the four competency fields are appropriate in terms of music competencies. However, it appeared that lecturers working for a long time in the department approached more critically and they believed that performance indicators do not efficaciously fulfill music competencies. In the present research, suggestions were also given in re-organising the competencies for classroom teachers in a way that it will cover the musical competencies.
