Abstract :
Born in 1885 in Bordeaux, Mauriac appears, from his childhood, as a passionate and anxious Catholic. Mauriac’s characters in which the catholic dimension is reflected as a kind of obsession are not completed, like Dostoevsky’s characters, and, they are open to alteration. The characters encircle the novel with an obvious complexity. On the one hand, this complexity builds the intern dynamic of work which allows the mobility of characters, on the other hand, it permits to plunge in the deepness of the human soul, in its dark corners, and by this way, it provides the ability to think about the complex structure of the human soul. Through the Mauriac’s approach, considering the human soul as battlefield of opposite tendencies, Louis in Le Noeud de viperès/ The Knot of Vipers exposes the condition of the fragmented soul in two conflicting magnetic field which, on the one hand, directs to God and, on the other hand, tends to the Satan. This work which attempts to expose the “fragmentation” upon the character Louis in Le Noeud de viperès aims to call attention to the fact that human is inclined to the evil and underline the Mauriac’s message which expresses that he can obtain the salvation by divine grace and the love of God contained within.
