  • Abstract
In the last period of Soviet Union, Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic put claim to Nagorno Karabagh under the domination of Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Republic, which gave rise to some ethnic conflicts. With Gorbachev’s glasnost ve perestroika policies, Nagorno Karabagh Autonomous Province officially demanded to unite with Armenia. In Azerbaijan, protests against both Moscow and Azerbaijan governments increased. Moscow government, pointing the events which had a tragic aspect, declared a state of emergency in a number of regions in Azerbaijan, especially in Baku. When the state of emergency was declared on the 19th of January 1990, at the same time Red Army troops invaded Azerbaijan by air, land and sea. The reason was mostly to overwhelm the supporters of independency in Azerbaijan. Turkish Republic considered the developments in Azerbaijan as the domestic affairs of Soviet Russia. On the other hand, Turkish Republic made a diplomatic collaboration with Soviet Russia and Western States. As to the Turkish media, they supported Azerbaijani community and broadcasted on behalf of the independence of Azerbaijan.
