Abstract :
In this research effects of legume *vetch* which was grown as a winter second crop and green manure after wheat harvest on wheat nitrogen requirement under irrigated Thrace Region condition. Field research was established as randomized complete blocks with split in Atatürk Soil and Water Resources Research Institute between 2001-2007. Research was consisted on three main treatments and three sub treatments. Cropping was main treatment while nitrogen levels were sub treatment. Sunflower was grown after legume cropping (in spring) and wheat was sown in following fall season. Soil organic matter and total nitrogen contents, plant nitrogen contents, wheat grain protein contents and yield were measured to determine effects of legume and nitrogen levels on wheat nitrogen contents. Wheat yield and nitrogen content significantly increased in second and the third year when legume was included in the rotation systems. According to results obtained from rotation and nitrogen application treatments. It was concluded that including legume in wheat rotation systems can reduce nitrogen fertilization requirement even no additional nitrogen fertilization is needed when green manuring was included in cropping systems.
