BREXIT : PROPRIÉTÉS MORPHOSYNTAXIQUES ET RÉFÉRENTIELLES D’UN NOM D’ÉVÉNEMENT
Abstract :
This article discusses a neologism that is being increasingly used in the media discourse, namely “Brexit”. The term is used to refer to the exit of the UK from the Eurozone. Examining a corpus from the written press, the paper seeks to study the morphosyntactical and referential characteristics of this term. In this study, the term “Brexit” is treated as a proper name of event. The objective of the study is to describe the behavioral aspects of the term in discourse and its impact on the receiver. Similarly, the paper argues that most of the words derived from “Brexit” are endowed with new meaning and go beyond the original meaning of this loan word.
