Abstract
This study intends to present the functioning of the literary aesthetics in three big names in French novel: JMG Le Clézio, Patrick Modiano and Michel Houellebecq. Betting on the attributes of the intellectual, the work compares writers not only in terms of aesthetic creation, but also in view of the ethos they finally crystallize each in the French literary field. It concludes that if the first two are entitled to a charismatic status as that of the eighteenth century Zola or Hugo in the nineteenth, the question arises differently in Houellebecq. This study combines social criticism and narrative poetics.
