Title Of Article :
PALEOGEOGRAPHICAL - GEOARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH ON THE BEYTEPE (KARAKOVA) MOUND IN THE ÖDEMİŞ PLAIN
Abstract :
The mounds in the Ödemiş plain are usually found on the accumulation cones and their foothills. Beytepe (Karakova mound) is different from the others as a Bronze Age settlement founded on a location that is the nearest to the bed of the Küçük Menderes river. The aim of the study is to determine the environmental changes in the surrounding of the Beytepe mound during the Holocene and to evaluate human-environment relationships. In this study dealing with the paleogeography and geoarchaeology of the mound, the element analysis of sediments obtained from core drills were done. With the element analysis performed with ICP, AAS, SFM and KJELDAHL devices, different sediment layers and the environments of Ödemiş plain in the last 7000 years were tried to be defined and differenciated. As result of detailed analysis determining the paleosol layers was also emphasized. Based on these analysis archaeological fills, fire layers, burned soil surfaces, river flood and bed sediments, oxbows, wetlands could be defined in Bronze Age settlement of Beytepe mound and its surroundings.
