Abstract :
Migration has the feature of expanding the labor supply with qualities of human capital through the workforce that comes from different cultures and geographic areas. Immigration has the feature of promoting innovation through the transfer of knowledge and productivity via acquisition of the skills and abilities inherent in the migrant workforce by local workforce, if migrant labor is complementary to local labor instead of supplement to them. One of the most important reasons behind the economic successes of today s industrialized economies is the various qualities of immigrant labor force that comes to these economies through immigration. This study aims to empirically answer the question, “Is migration a useful instrument for growth and development strategies of Turkey and European Union?” especially as recently migration is remaining on the agenda of both Turkey and European Union. For this purpose, relationship between migration and total factor productivity was analyzed for Turkey and European Union between 1990 and 2016 by using Panel Data Analysis. According to the test results; it is found that migration has not got a significant effect on productivity.
