Abstract :
In this study, the relationship between the share of renewable electricity production in the total electricity production (renewable electricity production / total electricity production), and real GDP ratio is examined from 1970 to 2017 in Turkey. This relationship was analyzed with the ARDL model because the series are stationary at different levels indicated by unit root tests. According to the ARDL model boundary test results, the variables are cointegrated in the long run. Negative and statistically significant error correction term was also an evidence of this long run cointegration. F-statistic from the ARDL model showed a one-sided causality relationship from renewable electricity production to growth. The long-run relationship between the variables was statistically significant. In conclusion, if the share of renewable electricity production in total electricity production increase 10%, this increase generate a 1.7% growth in Turkey. This study shows as the share of electricity generation from renewable sources in total electricity production increases, it will increase GDP and therefore will support the economic growth.
