Title Of Article :
The lipid profile of the cord blood can determine the risk of the atheroscleotic cardiovascular disease ?
Abstract :
Aim. Hypercholesterolemia is the most important causes of atherosclerosis. Serum lipid abnormalities begin in childhood and that atherosclerotic lesions emerge early in life. In this study, the lipid profiles of the cord blood in newborns were compared in terms of gestational parameters, maternal parameters, maternal lipid profiles .Method. Plasma total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein and very low density lipoprotein were measured in the cord blood of newborns and in serum of the mothers. The relations between cord plasma lipids values and clinical findings of newborns and their mothers were investigated. Results. Cord blood lipid levels were lower than those in adults. Cord blood HDL levels were correlated positively with maternal HDL levels (r= 0.419, p=0.03). However, there were no significant relations between the triglycerides-cholesterol and other lipoproteins levels in cord and maternal blood (p 0.05). Conclusion. We suggest that cord blood HDL levels have a predictive value in the development of the atherosclerosis in later stages of life.
