Academics Opinions on Biosafety Status in Laboratories of The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine: An Application at Afyon Kocatepe University
Abstract :
In this study, Afyon Kocatepe University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine academics views concerning the biosafety in the laboratories were taken in order to determine the levels of risk related to priority issues. 48 academics assessments regarding the issue were achieved by the help of the questionnaire that was used as a data collection method. In the study, descriptive statistics were employed and the data was interpreted accordingly. It was determined in the study that the average working time per day in laboratories is 4.67 hours, and it was indicated that the level of risk concerning biosafety or laboratory safety is above the middle level of risk and it was found out that zoonotic diseases are the leading diseases at the highest risk, which may be observed in laboratories. According to the survey results, the highest priority problems concerning the biosafety risk levels in laboratories are respectively ventilation problem, risks regarding chemicals and problems about training requirement.
