The investigation of seroprevalence of human babesiosis in Sivas
Abstract :
Aim. The purpose of this study is to investigate the seroprevalence of the human babesiosis in some farmers and villagers in Sivas region. Methods. In this study the sera obtained from 150 person who had tick bite history was investigated for the presence of anti-Babesia bovis IgG and IgM antibody in March-June 2008, Sivas province. Sera samples were studied by using indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT) for the presence of anti-B. bovis IgG and IgM antibody. Results. It was observed that IgG positivity was 5.33%, and IgM positivity was 0.66% against B. bovis in 150 human sera by using IFAT. Conclusion. Babesiosis is a common disease in domestic animals such as cattle, sheep in Sivas province so, there is high risk for the population living in this region. Detailed studies are necessary to elucidate other Babesia spp.
