Abstract :
In Gevas distinct of Van province, where forages have been intensivelyproduced, 129 forage producers were interviewed by using stratified sampling method. The data belong to 2008 production period and were collected by means of questionnaires conducted on farmers living in villages. On these farms, the average population was 8.09. The average farmer age was 36.33 and they had 18.16 years of farm production experience on average. In the farms interviewed, averagely 16.97 decare land was planted with forages that are mainly sainfoin (9.15 da), alfalfa (6.77 da), silage corn (1.01 da) and common vetch (0.04 da). The average cow milk, sheep and goat per farm was 2.88, 0.90, 5.93 and 1.00, respectively. Farmers in the region should be trained on the topics of forage cultivation. In addition, if villagers establish a cooperative, they can obtain tools and equipment easily. In the region, developments on dairy and fattening cow breeding depend on forage production. Therefore, forage production in the region, especially alfalfa, sainfoin, and silage corn production, should be more supportively encouraged. Within the context of this research, the producers are observed to be content with the education they receive on the topics of plant and animal production. The ratio of the ones stating to attend an upcoming education was 92,1 per cent.
