The Effects of Different Types Floor on Some Behavioural Traits and Hygiene of Brown Swiss Cows

The study was conducted to determine effects of different types floor on behavi-oural properties and cleaning situations of Brown Swiss cows. The experiment was carried out at the Research Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture at Atatürk University by using 33 Brown Swiss cows. The cows were allocated to three groups called as concrete, rubber mat and mattress groups. The results have shown that behavioural traits in different types floor groups such as lying, standing, rumination at standing position behaviours were highly significant (P 0.01) among groups, the feeding and drinking behaviours were also signifi-cant (P 0.05), but, rumination behaviour at lying positions were not statistically significant. Hygiene scores of the different groups were highly significant (P 0.01). As a result of the study, it was concluded that mattress should be used in tied closed barn for lactating Brown Swiss cows.
