Abstract :
This study analyzed the impact of sea water intrusion into the Bafra plain on quality of groundwater. Samples of groundwater were collected from the selected 32 different groundwater well, which were being used for irrigation by farmers, before and after the irrigation period, and EC, pH, Na, Ca, K, Mg, CO3, HCO3, Cl and SO4 values were determined by using these samples. CI values were used to reveal the rate of sea water entrance into the groundwater, and then the size of sea water intrusion was evaluated. The relationship between sea water entrance and the quality of groundwater was statistically analyzed. Research results showed that there had been sea water intrusion into the coastal part of the plain. Based on the results of statistical analysis, there was statistically significant relationship between sea water intrusion and the quality of groundwater. Research results also showed that EC and SAR values incredibly increased due to sea water intrusion into groundwater and reached to the unbeneficial levels for crops during irrigation.
