Abstract :
Five different pond water depths were examined to reveal their effect on rice plants. Irrigation treatments were; A: 3 cm, B: 6 cm, C: 9 cm, D: 12 cm and E: 15 cm water depth. Irrigation intervals were on a daily basis for all treatments. The data were collected during two consecutive years at the same conditions. According to results, the lowest and highest values of the amount of water applied monthly during growing seasons varied from 59.0 to 373.3 mm in 2008, and from 63.6 to 290.4 mm in 2009, respectively. Yield factors identified as response to different water depths were statistically examined. According to the results; the treatments of water depth less than 9 cm (namely 3 and 6 cm) decreased the number of the clusters and rice yield and also increased number of empty grains. But high water depths of 9, 12 and 15 cm increased the yield. These results showed that the paddy irrigation water depth of 9 cm is appropriate for rice production.
