Title Of Article :
THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT TREATMENTS ON PROPAGATION BY HARDWOOD CUTTINGS IN HAYWARD AND MATUA KIWIFRUIT CULTIVARS
Abstract :
This study was carried out to determine the suitable time for preparation of cuttings, type of cuttings and IBA concentrations to root the hardwood cuttings of Hayward and Matua kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa A. Chev.) cultivars in Rize during 2002 and 2003. The hardwood cuttings were used on 1 January and 1 February. After pre-treating with 0, 2000, 4000 and 6000 ppm IBA, the cuttings with two or three shoot buds were rooted in unheated greenhouse with a bottom heated mist propagation frame containing perlite medium. Hardwood cuttings were exposed to the rooting media for 120 days and then they all were removed from the media to determine the rooting and viability rates, the most developed roots in both length and width, lateral root number and root quality. As a result of the study, the highest rooting and rooting quality were obtained from hardwood cuttings of cv. Hayward prepared with three shoot buds on 1 January and cv. Matua prepared with three shoots buds on 1 January and 1 February. All the cuttings were treated with 4000 and 6000 ppm IBA. Rooting ration was found to be 52.0 % - 73.0 % and 48.0 % - 83.0 % for cv. for Hayward and Matua, respectively
