Abstract :
In this study, development and assessment of different modeling approaches for mass estimation of tomato fruit by using nondestructive impact technique were aimed. Bandita F1 tomato variety was used during the tests. Three different models were evaluated and compared for mass estimation of tomatoes. Impulse-moment relationship was used in the mass prediction method named as model 1. Simple linear model equation for single impact condition on model 2 was developed and only impulse parameter was taken into consideration. On model 3, nine impact parameters were extracted from impact force- contact time curves and number of parameter was decreased with stepwise regression analysis. Thus, a new linear mathematical model with multi-parameters was developed by using the most important impact parameters (Ia, Fmax1, Fmax2 ve tuçuş) obtained with stepwise regression analysis method in the multi linear regression analysis method. Statistical analysis results showed that model 3 gave the best prediction result with an estimation error of around ±2.5 g. This was followed by model 2 and model 1, respectively. Relationship between measured and predicted tomato mass in the case of using Ia, Fmax1, Fmax2 ve tuçuş impact parameters on the developed model 3 was found high. Furthermore, the coefficient of determinations (R^2) for calibration and validation data set of model 3 were found to be 0.94 and 0.92, respectively.
