Investigation of antioxidant effect of curcumin on testicular tissue damage caused by pesticide chlorpyrifos under light microscopy

In this study, effect of commonly used pesticide chlorpyrifos’s (CPF) on mammalian testicular tissue damage and antioxidant curcumin’s effects on damage reducing were investigated. For this purpose, 90 days old 48 male rats (Wistar albino) primarily divided into two groups; treated for 15 days and treated for 30 days. These groups divided into four groups within themselves, included; a control, only CPF, CPF + curcumin and only curcumin groups, respectively. On the 15th and 30th days 6 animals’ testicular tissue from each group were taken and placed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for histological procedures and evaluated by light microscopy. It was determined that the CPF group had histopathological changes such as seminiferous tubule degeneration, reduction of germ cells in seminiferous tubules, oedema in connective tissue in inter seminiferous tubules region and necrosis compared to control group. Also, it was observed that CPF and curcumin group had minor histopathological changes on these tissues according to only CPF group. There were statistically significant differences between control group and CPF and CPF + CUR groups as well as between CPF group and CPF + KUR group (p 0.05). The findings revealed that CPF caused damage in testicular tissues and curcumin had significant antioxidant effects on this damage.
